Graduate supervision

My particular areas of interest are in Chinese Buddhism and Taoism of the medieval period (roughly fourth to tenth centuries CE). I currently supervise three PhD students. All of my graduated PhD students are now in tenured or tenure-track positions in the United States, Canada, and Taiwan (see CV for details); former MA students are in PhD programs at Stanford University, Yale University, and University of Toronto.

Students who are interested in graduate work in Chinese Religions at McMaster should have strong language skills and an academic background in the history, literature and culture of China.

I encourage prospective applicants to the graduate program who wish to specialise in Chinese Religions, Daoism, or Chinese Buddhism to get in touch with me.
